If you've gone through the tapes fairly quickly, I'd suggest just returning the unit (your credit card likely as not has warranty-extensions built in if it's close on the warranty). When playing back the DVDs I noticed that the sound is not in synch with the visual. In that case, you may be able to clean it up and see if it works then.
